February News from Oakland Elementary-
Hold onto your hats!! We’re headed into the 2nd half of the schoolyear:
- Our enrollment is holding steady at 235 as of 2/14/24-
- Our January Self Manager party was a hit. Students made snowflakes and threw snowballs to celebrate their earning or keeping of their Self-Manager badges.
- Our 3rd and 4th grade teachers are continuing to expose the students to an online format of test and note taking in preparation for the Oregon Statewide Assessments System (OSAS) coming up this spring. Through our data meetings, we are noticing that note taking at the 3rd and 4th grade levels was a skill we needed to work on- as it is a large chunk of the OSAS test components.
- We’ve had our 3rd visit from our SFA facilitator. It was a great chance to look at our successes and the great growth we have seen from all of our students k-6. The team also set some very strategic goals which coincide greatly with our State Test scores. It is crucial that we see how these two separate data points can come together to keep our students striving for above grade level reading levels.
- Very exciting news- our K-3 Early Literacy team of certified teachers were able to attend the Success For All “Experienced sites” Conference in Nashville. This was such a treat as it has been a great time since we have had the opportunity to attend. It was all made possible through the Early Literacy Success Initiative (HB3198). We look forward to all the great things our troops bring back to us, to continue reaching our goal of 80% of our students at or above grade level in reading.
News from our Social Emotional Learning Specialist- Miss Fox:
In the month of January, the OES counselor continued school-wide Tuesday morning zoom meetings to teach students about coping skills and calming strategies. The students have been practicing these strategies throughout their day to regulate their body and emotions. The OES counselor has been teaching Sources of Strength lessons to students where they are learning about protective factors in their life and working to build a strong and resilient classroom community. In the upcoming month, the counselor will continue to provide behavioral and emotional support to the students at OES and connect families and students to valuable resources.
