Athletics

Hello Oakers!

What a week for Oaker Athletics! We had the rare opportunity to host not one but two home track meets—welcoming both our high school and middle school athletes to compete on familiar turf. A big thank you to everyone who helped make these meets run smoothly!

Our high school athletes posted some serious personal bests last week. To name some top scores:

  • Donovan McDermott (Senior) threw a PR in Javelin at the Oakland Home Meet: 135’ 2”

  • Gavyn Woody (Senior) followed up with a PR at the Prefontaine Meet: 137’ 5”

  • Kellan Sabo (Senior) clocked a blazing 45.49 in the 300m hurdles at Prefontaine

  • Isabel Wilmarth (Freshman) doubled down with major PRs in both the 100m (13.86) and 200m (28.29) at Prefontaine

Meanwhile, Oaker Baseball rolled to a mercy-rule win over the North Douglas Warriors, while our Softball team went head-to-head in a true league battle, falling just short in a hard-fought 2-1 game. Both teams remain in strong contention, and with just three weeks to go until postseason play, they’ll now begin their second round of league matchups, aiming to finish strong.

This Monday, as we host Myrtle Point for both baseball and softball, we will pause for a moment of silence in honor of the Umpqua Community College Softball team, who suffered an unimaginable tragedy this past weekend. A coach and a player lost their lives in a vehicle accident, and several others were injured.

In times like these, we are reminded that sport is about more than competition—it's about community, connection, and the preciousness of these shared experiences. Let’s hold our people a little closer and take none of it for granted.

GO OAKERS!
